BALTIMORE, MD, November 30, 1999 - myWebOS.com today announced the appointment of Deepak Puri to executive vice president of strategic development. In his new position, Puri will help myWebOS.com establish strategic business alliances and broaden distribution of myWebOS, the company's primary product and the world's first Web-based operating system.
Prior to joining myWebOS.com, Puri was employee number 68 at Netscape where he played a crucial role in the early development of the company by holding key management positions in product management, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) sales and strategic development. He also filed for two patents on behalf of Netscape.
"We're very excited to have Puri on board," said Shervin Pishevar, co-founder, president and chief executive officer of myWebOS.com. "His solid experience in OEM sales and product management at Netscape when it was going through explosive growth will be instrumental in helping myWebOS form strategic alliances and attract development partners to offer innovative applications to end-users."
One of Puri's greatest achievements while at Netscape was building and directing the company's OEM Product Management Group that nurtured Netscape's relationship with OEM and distribution partners worldwide. Puri's responsibilities included designing and managing Netscape's Partner Engineering Center, which served as a facility for over 80 engineering and marketing professionals from partner firms to work cooperatively with Netscape. Puri also closed numerous business agreements with companies such as Critical Path, Checkpoint Software, Bay Networks and Annuncio.
"myWebOS is very reminiscent of the early days of Netscape - a smart, young leader and a groundbreaking technology with broad applications," said Deepak Puri. "Like Netscape, myWebOS has the potential to partner with many firms for distribution and development. I'm thrilled to be involved in building another great business."
Before Netscape, Puri spent five years at Oracle where he managed the release of UNIX products on different platforms and later was the alliance manager for the Oracle-IBM relationship, which involved training IBM's worldwide sales force.
Puri holds a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering from the University of Delphi in India. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Puri is also active in a number of not-for-profit organizations including OpNetWork.org, which helps bridge the digital divide by helping the disadvantaged get training and jobs in the high tech industry, and Ashoka.org, which supports leading social entrepreneurs with seed capital in 40 countries.
